The Only Way is Derbyshire
In the wonderful world of the worldwide web, they say that you can tell how popular you are by the amount of times people search for you through Google.
So it came as great news to us here at Shottle Hall when we found out that it seems that Derbyshire is one of the country’s betrothed couples’ favourite places to tie the knot.
Statistics from Google show that no fewer than 5,600 searches are made each month for “wedding venues in Derbyshire ”, with searchers no doubt fixing their thoughts on holding their big day amid the green fields and plunging limestone valleys of our fine county.
Doubtless such imagery of the Peak District and the quality of the wedding venues (ahem..!) are fuelling the demand, which puts the county ahead of other counties – most tend to get around the 3,000 to 5,000 monthly mark.
Among them is “wedding venues Nottinghamshire” (3,600), 3,600 for Northamptonshire, “wedding venues Staffordshire” is also searched for 3,600 times, while poor old Middlesex is the must-have venue for just 880 searchers.
However, all of these pale into insignificance against one county. Already enjoying a tourism boom, Essex is also the most-searched-for wedding venues destination, with a stunning 22,200 people tapping their glossy false nail-adorned fingers in search for a place to tie the knot.
Its proximity to London is doubtless part of the lure – though this doesn’t help Middlesex – so we can only conclude that ITV2’s The Only Way is Essex Is helping the county cash in by giving their wedding venues – and Brentford’s tanning salons and night-time flesh-pots –a vajazzling of celebrity appeal.
Good for them, we say – and on the day they launch The Only Way is Derbyshire, we’ll be watching Google with interest.
