Child-friendly weddings One of the most popular questions we get asked at Shottle Hall is do we allow children? Well, of course we do!
Children are often an important part of your big day with many couples now having children before marriage; you have the perfect ready-made flower girl or page boy!
Some couples decide not to invite children as they can be distracting, especially during the more intimate parts of the day, such as the vows or the speeches.
But if you do want to include children, here are our top tips for keeping them amused.
- Goodie Bags. Great for during the meal or speeches. Why not theme your bags with your colour scheme and give your ushers or bridesmaids the responsibility of handing them out? You don’t have to spend a fortune but don’t forget bubbles.
- Colouring books. A very cost effective way of keeping them occupied, just make sure that you get washable pens or crayons, so you don’t ruin smart wedding outfits.
- Crèches are great for the younger ones, should they require more attention. Although you might be surprised to know that at most weddings the children are still going well into the night, often lasting longer than the adults.
- Children’s entertainers and magicians are readily available for hire. There will be lots of fun, comedy, colour and laughter and they are often really popular with the older guests too.
- Giant games such as giant Jenga or Connect 4 are perfect for summer weddings where you can make the most of our grounds. Why not ask someone to organise a few childhood games such as a three-legged race - people of all ages can take part.
- Disposable cameras. It’s great to give the kids a bit of responsibility, so why not give them disposable cameras to take photos of your guests. You never know what you might find when you get them developed!
- Bouncy castles are great fun - and not just for small people!
Did you invite children to your wedding? Or did you prefer to celebrate without little ones? We’d love to hear from you.
